Just three days after Virginia teen Nicole Madison Lovell was reported missing, her remains were found in Surry County, North Carolina, about 100 miles from her home. Virginia Tech student David Eisenhauer, 18, has been charged with the 13-year-old girl’s murder.
According to CNN, Eisenhauer was arrested on Saturday morning and charged with felony abduction. Hours later, the changed the charge to first-degree murder when Lovell’s remains were discovered just inside the North Carolina border.

On Wednesday, Lovell was reported missing from her home at the Lantern Ridge apartment complex in Blacksburg after her family found her window open and a dresser pushed up against her bedroom door.
Police have not provided any details on a motive or the condition of Lovell’s body, but Eisenhauer is being held without bail at the Montgomery County Jail in Virginia.
Although Lovell’s remains were found hours after Eisenhauer was arrested, CNN reports that he did not give police any information about her whereabouts and has not confessed to the murder.
According to the Roanoke Times, Eisenhauer is a first year engineering student at Virginia Tech and part of the school’s cross country team. After his arrest, the university issued a statement about the student’s arrest, noting that he was immediately suspended.
“In the case of a felony arrest, the university has the authority to place a student on immediate interim suspension. The entire Virginia Tech community extends its support to Nicole’s family and friends.”

During a press briefing on Saturday night, Blacksburg police Chief Anthony Wilson said that although Eisenhauer has been charged, the investigation is “far from over.”
An autopsy has been ordered for Nicole Lovell’s body and authorities will continue to work to create a timeline that led up to her death.
