Director Jorge Gutierrez has come aboard to develop a new movie in the Lego series that has had the working title of The Billion Brick Race, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Gutierrez has directed the Golden Globe-nominated animated feature The Book of Life and Emmy-winning TV series El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera. Most recently, he stepped into the virtual reality arena, directing Google Spotlight Stories’ Son of Jaguar, an animated short that combines Mexican wrestling with a heartfelt story about tradition and family.

While the logline for the film hasn’t been unveiled, the project was originally in the hands of Jason Segel and Drew Pearce, based on an original idea of Pearce’s.

Upcoming films in Warners’ Lego Movie franchise include The Lego Ninjago Movie, which opens Sept. 22, followed by The Lego Movie Sequel on Feb. 8, 2019.

Gutierrez is repped by WME.
